A Proper Interior Paint Job Starts Before the Paint

Most interior painting problems are not caused by the paint — they are caused by what was not done before the paint went on.

We regularly see homes where previous paint was applied over cracked plaster, poor patching, uneven surfaces, mould staining or moisture-affected areas. Painting over these problems does not fix them. We assess and correct the surface first so the finish has a better chance of lasting.

Common problems we see and fix before painting:

  • Cracked plaster and wall movement around windows and cornices
  • Poor or mismatched patching from previous repairs
  • Uneven surfaces visible under raking light
  • Mould staining that bleeds through new coats
  • Moisture-affected areas that cause premature peeling

What We Paint

We carry out interior painting across all residential spaces — preparation matched to what each surface actually needs.

Living Areas & Open-Plan Spaces

Walls, feature walls, ceilings and cornices in living rooms, dining areas and open-plan spaces. Prepared and painted under natural light so the finish looks consistent from every angle.

Bedrooms

Full bedroom repaints, including walls, ceilings, cornices, doors, and trim. Room sequencing and furniture protection managed to minimise disruption in occupied homes.

Kitchens

Kitchen walls and ceilings are painted with appropriate washable, durable finishes suited to cooking environments. Kitchen cabinet painting can be included in the same scope where needed, using a suitable spray-applied finish where appropriate.

Bathrooms & Wet Areas

Bathrooms require specific preparation and a correct coating system. We use appropriate primers and moisture-resistant finishes, and treat mould before painting.

Hallways & Staircases

High-traffic zones with frequent marking and wear. Appropriate sheen levels and durable finishes for hallways. Safe access management for staircase painting.

Trims, Doors & Skirtings

Interior timber — doors, architraves, skirtings and window reveals — sanded, primed and painted with appropriate enamel or acrylic finish for a clean, sharp line throughout.

More than paint: Repairs before repainting

A durable paint finish depends on the surface underneath.

Where needed, we can include supporting repair work before painting, such as plaster repairs, crack repairs, minor carpentry, timber repairs, mould or stain treatment, damaged trim, and failing surfaces.

That means you do not need to coordinate separate repair trades before painting starts. We scope the work properly and handle preparation under a single accountable team.

Where the surface needs it, we include the following — at no additional surprise cost:

  • Plaster crack filling and patching — interior walls and ceilings
  • Cornice crack repairs and section replacement where needed
  • Mould treatment and stain blocking
  • Timber repairs — rotted sections, damaged joinery
  • Gap filling and caulking
  • Correct priming for bare plaster, timber or previously painted surfaces

Colour Consultation

We can assist with colour selection where needed — advising on sheen levels by room, undertone matching between areas, and whether existing colours are worth keeping or updating. We work with all major Australian paint brands including Dulux, Taubmans, Haymes and PPG.

Low-Tox and Low-VOC Interior Painting

Where low-VOC or low-odour paint options are preferred — such as nurseries, children’s rooms, occupied homes or sensitive indoor spaces — we can specify suitable paint systems as part of the scope. Low-VOC options are available across all interior painting work at a modest material cost premium. See our dedicated low-tox painting service for full details.

Interior Painting Costs — What to Expect

Interior painting costs vary depending on the number of rooms, ceiling heights, surface condition, and the amount of preparation required. As a general guide for South East Melbourne homes:

Apartments & Units

Single room: $600 – $1,500+
1-bed unit: $2,000 – $3,500+
2-bed unit: $3,500 – $6,000+

Houses

3-bed interior: $5,000 – $12,000+
4-bed interior: $8,000 – $15,000+
5+ bed / large home: $12,000 – $25,000+

Note on Preparation:

Properties with cracked plaster, mould, high ceilings or significant preparation requirements usually cost more, but proper preparation helps the finish last longer. Written fixed-price quote after on-site inspection.

Why Melbourne Homeowners, Landlords and Property Managers Choose Us

We fix the surface first

We do not paint over problems to keep quotes low. Before any paint goes on, we assess cracks, failing render, mould staining, water marks and timber damage. If it needs fixing, we scope it and fix it.

One team, one scope

When plastering, minor carpentry, or tiling touch-ups are needed before painting, we include them in the same job with the same team. You do not need to coordinate a plasterer, then a painter, then a carpenter. One call, one written scope, one accountable team.

In the trade since 1987

Our team members have been working in the trade since 1987. That means we can identify substrate problems that newer operators miss — correct primer systems for different surfaces, proper preparation for weatherboards, and coating choices that hold up in Melbourne conditions.

No subcontractors

Your job is handled by our own team from the initial inspection through to the final walkthrough. We do not hand your job to a subcontractor after quoting. The people who quote the job are the people who do the job.

Accredited and insured

Members of the Master Painters Association of Victoria. Fully insured, police checked and Working With Children checked.

Written quotes. Workmanship guaranteed.

You get a written scope explaining exactly what’s included and why. If something is not right with our workmanship after completion, contact us, and we will inspect it and fix genuine workmanship issues at no additional cost.
